When the pods reached the Elysiums shields, they were caught briefly, before pushing through. Each one then slammed onto the hull at various locations on Elysium, the spinning drill heads digging into the solid duranium hull plating as if it was thin aluminum.
::The bridge shook again as the pods slammed against the Elysium’s duranium plating. The sound of drilling reverberated through the decks.::
As soon as the pods latched on, the front hatches irised open and the hounds poured out, attacking anyone nearby, killing everyone in front of them.
As soon as the pods connected with the hull, new alarm klaxond began ringing through the ship. "Breach! Intruder alert!! We have breaches on decks five, eight, ten, fifteen and twenty!"
Cerese was taking the time to enjoy a break from her studies, unfortunately she was in the swimming pool in the middle of swimming when the alert sounded. Swimming to the edge she pulled herself up and out, grabbing her towel and quickly heading to dry off and grab her clothes.
Zac was barreling down the corridor and almost ran Cerese over, knocking them both to the floor. "Sorry, sorry, sorry!" He muttered. "Are you alright?" He had sense enough to ask the young woman as he helped her to her feet.
Having dried off and dressed Cerese had only just emerged into the corridor before getting knocked over by Zac. “I’m fine, what’s happening?” She gave Zac a worried look.
"Intruders have boarded the ship. We need to get to a weapons locker and arm ourselves." He answered his words coming out in a rush. "Come on, it's better if we stick together. Safer too."
Cerese nodded. “I guess I picked a hell of a time to go swimming!”
Alice put up force fields up in the hallways.
Zac nodded, "Your timing could have been better." He admitted a small grin coming to his face despite the situation they were in.
“The only problem is we don’t have many options as to where to go” Cerese looked around. “Can we get through any of the Jeffries tubes from here?”
Zac thought for a moment, "I think we can access some down at the next junction. If nothing else it will get us out of sight of the invaders."
Suddenly, the bulkhead, off to their left, exploded inward. Through the smoke and destroyed duranium, stepped a giant monster. Blood dripped off of its fangs and claws, from other personnel that it had already slain. Its ears twitched towards them, then it snapped its massive head in their direction. Snarling savagely, it flexed its claws as it prepared to launch itself forward in an attack.
Cerese leapt back looking around for where to go, if she turned and ran she would caught up in no time, but she couldn’t just stand there either. “Now what!?”
Zac grabbed her hand and literally pulled her down the corridor, "The weapons junction is this way!" As he ran in a frantic dashl toward it, pulling Cerese along with him.
As soon as they started running, the beast gave chase, though, with its bulk, it was slowed by the narrower corridors. Still it came, snarling and gnashing its fangs at them.
Cerese kept up not giving the creature a chance to catch her, she would have little choice but to keep going anyway.
Zac ran, pulling Cerese along as they skidded around a corner and he saw it. The weapons locker! "There! The weapons locker!" He shouted as they dashed the last few feet., His fingers fumbled to get the cover off but he finally managed and grabbed two phasers, he tossed one to Cerese and he took the other. "Set it to the highest setting!" As he adjusted his power setting and fired at the approaching monster.
The crimson beam lanced out from the phaser, but was stored short of its desired target, by an energy shield that popped up a directly in front of the beast. The intensity of the blast, however, did cause some bleed over, around the apparent edges of the shield, which seemed to only provide protection of the very front of the beast.
"Some sort of shield," Zac shouted over the noise of battle. "Protecting it but it looks like it is only protects the front of the creature. We have to flank it if we want to take it down. Let's get to a cross junction!"
Cerese nodded. She was still training to use a lot of the weapons, but she followed Zac’s instructions to the letter.
Zac led the way, staying ahead of the creatures as they reached a cross junction. he motioned Cerese to one side while he took the other, "When the creature gets in the middle of the cross junction fire, don't wait fire."
“Understood” Cerese nodded confirming Zac’s instructions. “We’ll take these… things down.”
"Of course we will." Zac replied with a confidence he wasn't sure of but it was all they had besides their phasers.
After the group split up, the approaching hound slowed its advance. While it was no longer able to think complex thoughts, its lobotomized and reprogrammed mind did recognize that its prey had gone in two different directions. It paused a couple beats as it decided which prey to go after. Remembering that the female had gone left, and it knew that females were more dangerous than males, it chose to go left.
Launching forward again, it leapt at the intersection, facing the female prey fully , only to realise, too late, that the male was waiting right behind it, in an ambush setting. And it died regretting its choices.
